KT Skylife Using Broadcom Chips for Ultra-HD STBs – Satellite Today

[Via Satellite 05-28-2015] KT Skylife, one of South Korea’s top satellite broadcast providers, has deployed Ultra-HD Set-Top-Boxes (STBs) built on Broadcom‘s single-chip High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) 4K/Ultra-HD satellite solution, the BCM7376. The single-chip BCM7376 delivers video at 60 Frames Per Second (FPS) with 10-bit color and four times the resolution of conventional HD displays.

“Broadcom’s fully integrated Ultra-HD solution combines dual full-band capture front ends with eight demodulators and a 4K display in a single chip, providing greater ease of design and lower development cost,” said Han Lee, CTO of KT Skylife.

According to research from Strategy Analytics, global shipments of Ultra-HD TVs passed 12 million units in 2014, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for roughly three out of every four units sold.
