[Via Satellite 10-13-2014] Writer and cruise-veteran Wally Moran has selected DeLorme’s inReach satellite communicator to use during the six week Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) Snowbird Rally. Starting Nov. 1, he will lead a fleet of sailboats from Hampton, Va. along the East Coast, stopping in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia before concluding in Miami, Fla. on Dec. 14.
DeLorme’s inReach satellite communicator, powered by Iridium, will provide GPS tracking, two-way texting and interactive SOS distress managing. Moran can be followed using the “Where’s Wally” map on the ICW Snowbird Rally website.
The inReach communicator allows users to view route details, drop waypoints and see detailed GPS tracks and geo-located messages along with other information. An SOS button immediately contacts an international Search-and-Rescue (SAR) coordination center and establishes communications between SAR authorities and the sender in the event of an emergency.
