[Via Satellite 01-08-2015] SES’ Astra 2G satellite, launched Dec. 27 aboard a Proton rocket from International Launch Services (ILS), reached Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) on Jan. 2, 2015. The satellite’s manufacturer, Airbus Defence and Space reported the solar arrays and reflector antennas have been deployed and the satellite has acquired final Earth point.

Located at 28.2/28.5 degrees east, Astra 2G is designed to provide broadcast and broadband services to the U.K. and Ireland, Europe and West Africa through 62 Ku-band transponders and four Ka-band transponders. Built on the Eurostar E3000 bus, the satellite is now undergoing testing prior to entering commercial service.
