[Via Satellite 11-18-2014] Yazmi, a U.S.-based satellite solutions provider and Newtec have created an e-learning capability on the satellite-enabled Odyssey tablet. The devices use Newtec’s TelliCast multicast distribution software to deliver content in remote, low-income regions.
Yazmi is using AfriStar and AsiaStar satellites to provide governments with access to a special e-learning channel. The Odyssey tablets can transmit live lectures and share digital textbooks, notebooks, educational apps and other resources.
Yazmi and NewTec are conducting a pilot program with the Odyssey tablets in two schools in South Africa; one in Rietkol, and the other Heathfield. From October to December, all sixth grade students have received an Odyssey 700 tablet for satellite access to live lectures and supplementary material. The schools have also been supplied with solar chargers.
